Bash Bish Falls
The highest single-drop waterfall in Massachusetts — a 60-foot cascade into a clear pool in a dramatic gorge. The 1.5-mile trail to the falls is well-maintained and doable for kids 5 and up. Best in spring and after rain. Free state park.

Norman Rockwell Museum (Stockbridge)
The permanent collection of the largest collection of Rockwell's work, including originals of his most famous Saturday Evening Post covers. His actual working studio was moved to the property and is open to tour. The museum does a remarkable job making the work accessible to children — the paintings are full of stories kids immediately understand.

Tanglewood Summer Concerts
The summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Lenox. Lawn tickets allow you to bring picnics, blankets, and chairs to the open hillside behind the main shed. The sound carries beautifully. Saturday afternoon BSO concerts are the easiest for families.

MASS MoCA (North Adams)
A contemporary art museum built in a 16-acre former electrical transformer factory. The scale is extraordinary — some installations occupy buildings that are the size of city blocks. James Turrell's permanent light installation is the anchor. Kids are absorbed by the scale and strangeness.

Hancock Shaker Village
A living history museum of the Shaker community that farmed here from 1790 to 1960. Twenty original buildings including a remarkable circular stone barn. Seasonal farm animals, craftspeople demonstrating Shaker skills, and a great family museum building. One of the most authentic living history sites in New England.
