Read: Rainy Day Rescues: Indoor Activities →- 🔍Color Quest — Pick a color and count every piece of equipment in that color as you explore. Changes each visit.
- 🪞Shadow Maze — Follow the grandkid exactly through the play space — mirror every move. They'll make it as hard as possible.
- 🏗️Building Challenge — In any block or construction area: tallest tower in 5 minutes. Grandparent vs. grandkid. No mercy.
- •Many play spaces sell 10-visit punch cards that cut per-visit cost by 20–30%. Worth asking if grandkids are local.
- •Weekday morning sessions have significantly fewer kids — you're often paying the same for a much better experience.

Funny Face Challenge
Every piece of equipment gets a photo with the silliest possible face. No exceptions. The slide, the tunnel, the foam pit. Document everything. These photos become a slideshow at every family gathering forever.
- ⏱️
Obstacle Course Race
Pick a route through the space together and time it on a phone. Then time grandparent doing the same route — which is considerably funnier. Then race. This works at age 3 and at age 10.
- 📖
Story Time in the Tunnel
Find the quietest tunnel or padded corner. Grandparent tells a story set in the play space itself — characters are named after the grandkids, the slides are mountains, the foam pit is a magical swamp. Works especially well at ages 4–7.
🎨 Arts & crafts to do together
- 🗺️
Draw the Map
When you get home, draw a map of the play space from memory — each section, what was your favorite spot, what you'd add if you could. Grandkids draw, grandparents label. Doesn't need to be accurate. It's better when it's not.
Supplies: Paper, crayons — free.
- 🏗️
Living Room Version
Use couch cushions, pillows, and blankets to build a tiny version of the play space at home. Set a timer: 15 minutes to build, 15 minutes to play. Photograph the masterpiece before it gets disassembled.
Supplies: Cushions, blankets — free.
